PLANNING PERMISSION

Tree Preservation Orders and Conservation Areas are used by local authorities to ensure that the overall character of an area cannot be drastically altered without planning permission. TPO’s are not species, or age-specific and can apply to individual trees and to groups of trees, or whole woodlands. As a responsible contractor, Swift Tree Services will undertake all the relevant checks to confirm if your tree requires planning permission due to having a preservation order, or being located within a conservation area and then fully undertake the planning application on your behalf. Our surveyors have worked hard over the years to develop positive working relationships with our local planning departments and can advise on the sort of tree work that is likely to be acceptable. 

In emergency cases, where the arborist considers that a protected tree is in a dangerous condition and requires imminent work, we are able to issue the planning department a 5-day notification to remove the tree. Our surveyor will talk you through this process to alleviate your concerns.

REPLACEMENT TREES

In the case of Tree Preservation Orders, the applicant will normally be required to plant a replacement tree, to be located as close as practicable to the tree that has been allowed to be removed. This needs to be undertaken in the following planting season (Nov-Mar). Swift Tree Services can supply and plant your replacement tree and are happy to liaise with the planning office to discuss choice of species, should you wish. It is important to note that the replacement tree will be subject to the original preservation order.
