Our surveyors at Swift Tree Services have the experience to be able to recommend a bespoke solution for the problem your tree may be causing. We can offer a variety of options, always looking to find the optimum balance to enhance your outdoor environment.

• Target Pruning: The targeted reduction or removal of specific branches in order to reshape the canopy, or to clear a hazard such as neighbouring property. Our arborists work to BS3998 – pruning your trees carefully and accurately in order to enhance their shape and form, whilst minimising any impact to their overall vitality.
• Crown Lifting: Often an excellent solution to allow light to pass beneath the canopy of the tree. When undertaken correctly, this can significantly help with shading issues, whilst retaining the tree’s aesthetics. 
• Crown Thinning: Carefully removing a percentage of the internal branches within the canopy, in order to reduce density and allow light to pass through. Another great solution to alleviate shading, but must be carried out properly, to avoid compromising the biomechanical structure of the tree.
• Crown Reduction: If a tree has outgrown it’s space, then it may be appropriate to undertake a full reduction of the canopy. However, this can create more problems than it solves, if the pruning is too invasive, as it can stimulate dense regrowth and/or create multiple entry points for decay funghi. At Swift Tree Services, our climbing arborists, backed up with our tracked access platform can undertake high quality, sympathetic reductions that minimise the risks to your trees and leave them looking beautiful for years to come.
• Formative Pruning: Young trees can be carefully adapted to train them to the shape required. This may be for health benefits, such as removing crossing branches; raising the height of the canopy: or purely to improve their aesthetics.
• Pollarding: A traditional method of stimulating dense, straight regrowth as a timber crop from certain species. This involves cutting back the entire canopy to the bare scaffold structure. Pollarding can be used on younger trees in order to prevent them growing larger than required, but will need repeating on a cyclical basis. We can advise and put in place a schedule of maintenance for trees where this is the best course of action. Pollarding is not an approach we would normally advise on mature trees, due to the invasive nature of the pruning.
